Going around in Chiang Mai

Red Taxi
The red taxi so-called "Se-Lor", a modified pick-up truck with a roof over the back, is the most common taxi for commuters in the urban area. Visitors just tell them the destination and negotiate the price before making a trip. They normally pick up and drop other passengers along the way until they reach a final destination. It normally costs about 10 baht per person, however it may cost up to 20-30 baht, depending on either his or your destination as well. For the vicinity areas, the taxi looks the same but different color, for example the yellow taxi services between Chiang Mai and Chom Thong.

Tuk Tuk
If you want a faster and some adventure services try Tuk Tuk. For a short ride, it costs about 20-30 baht per trip and 40-60 baht for a longer ride. Do negotiate the price for your destination. Remember sit back, relax, but hold tight!.

3-Wheels Bicycle "Saam-Lor"
For sightseeing and sort rides, you may try "Saam-Lor" which rarely available nowadays. Price range from 20 to 50 baht depending on the distance.

Bike/motor bike rental
A cheaper option in the long run is to rent a motorbike. The price seems to be 250 Bht everywhere for 24 hours, you might bargain a bit when you rent from noon onwards.

Getting there

By air

Air tickets for Thailand with airfares, and flight schedules to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Samui and other cities in Thailand.
At CM airport, there are taxis charging a fixed price of 90 Bht to bring you to the center.
Going to the airport you can be cheaper off taking a Tuk-Tuk.

By Train
A lot of people go by night train to Chiang Mai. It is possible to book train tickets online.
Note that these trains stop about 45 minutes after departure time in Don Muang airport, so people willing to take a train north without going to BKK center can catch the train there.

By bus

All the travel agencies in Kao San Road offer buses to CM. Price ranges around 280 Bht for an overnight bus. Sometimes a free night at a guesthouse is included in the price, but this is not always a good option and it may depend on your willingness to take a trekking with them.
